Cardhu the Humpback Whale
Her Story (Cardhu was entangled on 7/30/2018)
Cardhu was named after a world famous distillery in Scotland. They make a cardhu single malt whiskey. Cardhu has an all black tail with very little scarring. It is difficult to identify Cardhu, but with a good photograph of her tail and dorsal fin, Cardhu’s identity can be established.
Most humpback associations are of very short duration, perhaps a few hours or a couple of days. Cardhu and Salt have been known to spend months traveling and feeding together in various years including 1988 and1999. It is quite a treat to see two large well-known mature females spending quality time together. In the photo (right) you can see Cardhu’s wide-open mouth and Salt just closing her mouth after feeding on small fish.
