Cats Paw the Humpback Whale
Her Story
Cats Paw was named for the white mark on her all-black fluke that resembles a paw print. Look closely, the paw print is on the left side of her tail. It may not look very large here, but her tail is 13-14 feet wide and perhaps 4 feet high!
Cat’s Paw has a unique feeding style un-copied by any other humpback whale in the world. She spyhops up through the center of a school of fish with her mouth closed. As she sinks back into the water she opens her mouth and 1000’s of gallons of water and fish pour in. It is incredible to see. She is the only whale that can be identified by her style of feeding.
