Ember the Humpback Whale
His Story
Ember is a whale that has given whale watchers chills (good ones) on many occasions. While some humpbacks seem to enjoy just being near the boats, Ember does some outrageous things that resemble normal whale behaviors gone wild.
We have recorded him twisting and turning, spinning and even going under the boat upside down! One time he came up tail first! The term used to describe a whale coming up tail first is a “backup”! Ember put his tail about 10 feet in the air and held it there while spinning around. Quite a feat for something as big as a billboard.
This tail rise is on the first video clip on our homepage.

Salt & Friends: Humpback Whales With Names
The story of Ember is three minutes in length. It shows Ember in a close approach that can only be described as an underwater ballet. You see Ember stand on his head and come up tail first! Ember is also seen feeding and breaching.
(Salt & Friends is 60 minutes in length with 58 minutes of whale footage.)
